The Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Denver Broncos in Week 6 on Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football. With the Chiefs being led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes Jr., Amazon Prime Video took this as an opportunity to create an awesome segment that had Mahomes’ father (Patrick Mahomes Sr.) and former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

Mahomes Sr. is an African-American man and former professional baseball player who spent 11 seasons in the MLB with the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Now, his son (Patrick Mahomes Jr.) plays for the Chiefs in the same city where the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is.
It’s a full-circle moment for the Mahomes family seeing Mahomes Jr. solidify his legacy in the same city that pays homage to African Americans and their contributions to professional baseball.
In his 11-year career, Mahomes Sr. started 63 games and had a 42-39 win/loss record to go with a 5.47 earned run average and 452 strikeouts.
While Mahomes Jr. chose to pursue a career in professional football and has established himself as arguably the best quarterback in the NFL today, he also played baseball in high school. Despite committing to play college football at Texas Tech, he was a sought-after baseball prospect due to his special arm talent. The Detroit Tigers selected him in the 2014 MLB Draft, but he didn’t sign a contract.
While he never followed in his father’s footsteps, Mahomes Jr. has proven he has the arm talent to be a capable baseball player with his ability to make side-arm throws and sling the ball down the football field with ease.
