Hawks trade for Blazers star Jerami Grant in blockbuster deal

An NBA contributor has suggested that the Atlanta Hawks acquire Jerami Grant from the Portland Trail Blazers in a blockbuster trade.Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz offers the following trade scenario between the Hawks and Trail Blazers.

Portland Trail Blazers get: f Forward DeAndre Hunter, 2024 first-round pick (lottery protection via Sacramento Kings)

“Considering Jerami Grant’s height, defensive versatility and 3-point shooting ability, he would be an ideal forward to pair with Trae Young,” Swartz writes in his NBA Trades column.” Grant, 29, is coming off one of the best seasons of his career (20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists per game, 40.1 percent from 3-point range, 5.7 attempts per game), and he could replace Collins as the starting power forward. Atlanta, which has ranked 22nd and 26th in defense the past two years, should jump into the top five with Grant’s presence alone.

Grant will be eligible for a trade on Jan. 15, and he’s expected to be a tradable player by the 2024 trade deadline, according to Michael Scotto of NBA Executives & HoopsHype of Rival Leagues. Grant signed a five-year, $160 million contract with Portland on the free-agent market this offseason before Damian Lillard requested a trade.

Grant, 29, averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 2022-23. He shot 47.5 percent from the field, 40.1 percent from beyond the arc and 81.3 percent from the free throw line.

Grant played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and Trail Blazers. He has averaged 12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in his NBA career. Grant’s salary this season is $27.6 million.
