Oriol Romeu’s return to Barcelona t shirt 2024 has not gone according to plan. Having arrived last summer from Girona to replace Sergio Busquets, the 32-year-old has barely played in recent months, his coach Xavi Hernandez having dropped him completely from the team due to his poor performances.
However, with Frenkie de Jong and Pedri joining Gavi on the sidelines through injury, Romeu could have the chance to re-establish himself in the starting XI. In any case, he’s ready to seize the opportunity, as he declared at the MIC presentation.
“The start of the season was good. I enjoyed the matches, but then the performances dropped off. So it’s more a personal question: How can I get back to my best level and enjoy playing again, like I did last season?
“You try to improve your feeling by playing good minutes, good matches, because what hurts you the most is not being able to help your teammates, finish the match and say: today I went home with a good feeling. When that doesn’t happen, you think about it a lot during the week”.
Romeu denied that his difficulties this season were linked to mental problems.
“Heureusement, il n’y a pas eu de problèmes de santé mentale, ça n’est pas allé plus loin. Ce qui se passe, c’est que vous ne vous amusez pas autant que vous le voudriez sur le terrain, alors vous essayez de travailler, de trouver une routine quotidienne, des actions qui vous aident à avoir confiance en vous et à grandir.
“I’m feeling better and better and I’m optimistic about the end of the season. I want to make the most of the last two or three months, take part in competitions and have some great experiences.
Romeu can certainly play an important role for the FC Barcelona 2024 jersey, who are looking to go far in the Champions League and secure second place in La Liga (at the very least).
