According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “Richardson is strongly considering season-ending shoulder surgery on his damaged AC joint, sources say, with a procedure deemed by some as the best option to fully heal his right throwing shoulder. Richardson and Indianapolis sought four or five opinions on his shoulder, sources say, taking their time before arriving at this conclusion.”

After the game, Richardson was reported with a Grade 3 AC joint sprain; on Wednesday, he was placed on injured reserve. When he’s not playing, Minshew will start as quarterback.

Regardless of the severe injury, Richardson’s MRI revealed some encouraging results, according to Rapoport. It is said that his ligaments “looked better than expected” and that his labrum remains unaffected.

Richardson was selected by the Indianapolis Colts as their fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The quarterback threw for 577 yards and three touchdowns through four games this season.

However, given the nature of Richardson’s injuries, surgery is often seen as the best course of action.
