Newcastle to extend Guimarães’ contract + break salary cap at around over 180k a week

According to a new report from Jacob Whitehead, a reporter on the Newcastle side of The Athletic UK, Newcastle have been very careful in bolstering their squad to ensure that any new players don’t disrupt the planned wage structure – the focus is on investing in the squad in a way that is sustainable, while also preserving the team’s dynamism.

This meant that when players such as Alexander Isaac and Sandro Tonali arrived at St. James’ Park in the recent transfer window, they were not exactly paid more than existing players such as Bruno Guimarães.

The Brazilian is set to sign a new contract which will once again make him the highest earner at the club, with an expected salary of over £180,000 a week.
